Con Edison Asks Customers in Areas of Eastern Brooklyn to Conserve Energy
Company Reduces Voltage by 8 Percent to Maintain Reliability
Con Edison is asking some of its customers in the eastern part of Brooklyn to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment. Con Edison has reduced voltage in the area by 8 percent to protect equipment and maintain service while crews make repairs.
The area is bounded by the Brooklyn-Queens borough line and Newtown Creek on the north, Fulton Street on the south, the Brooklyn-Queens borough line on the east, and Graham Avenue and Throop Avenue on the west. The area includes 117,500 customers in some, or all, of the following neighborhoods: Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Greenpoint and Williamsburg.
Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. If you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.
The company also asks customers to refrain from charging their electric vehicles unless necessary until repairs are made.
The voltage reduction also affects areas bounded on the north by Fulton Street, on the south by Clarendon Road, on the east by Alabama Avenue and on the west by New York Avenue.

When calling, customers should report whether their neighbors also have lost power. Customers who report outages will receive updates with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
