Whether you live in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, or Westchester County, if you’re concerned about costs—we’re here to help.

Energy Affordability Program (EAP)

You may qualify for a discount on your monthly energy bill if you receive benefits from the following eligible governmental assistance program.

How to See if You’ve Been Enrolled Automatically

After you’re enrolled automatically, we’ll send you a letter to let you know and provide details about when you can expect to receive a discount on your monthly energy bill.

How to Apply for the Energy Affordability Program

Annual Recertification

Once your application is approved, you'll be enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program for 12 months. To continue your enrollment after that, you'll need to recertify by submitting a new application each year. We'll remind you 60 days before your recertification deadline and send additional reminders via letter and text 30 days prior. For text alerts, you'll receive messages from 78407 (standard rates may apply). To opt out of text notifications, simply text STOP to 78407.

Effective December 1, 2024

Qualifying customers will also be signed up automatically for Budget Billing. If you’re behind on your energy bills, you’ll be enrolled once your outstanding balance is paid. If you’d like to opt out of Budget Billing but stay enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program, please contact us.

Statewide Solar for All/REACH

Statewide Solar for All (S-SFA) and Renewable Energy Access and Community Help (REACH) are New York State utility bill assistance programs. To participate, customers must satisfy two requirements.

You must be:

All customers who meet both requirements will be auto-enrolled in the programs. There are no additional fees, monthly sign-up, equipment installation, or maintenance required to receive S-SFA/REACH bill credits—and we will continue as your electricity provider.

If you live in a disadvantaged community and are not currently receiving an EAP discount on your bill, please review the program’s enrollment criteria. If you believe you qualify for the EAP, sign up online or use one of the other methods to apply today.

You may cancel your S-SFA or REACH participation at any time with no penalty by contacting us. Questions? Read answers to some Frequently Asked Questions to learn more.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

HEAP helps income eligible customers pay the cost of heating their homes. If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year.

If you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your energy service shut off, you may also be eligible for emergency benefits. If you are eligible, the Emergency HEAP Benefit can help you heat your home if you are in a heat or heat related emergency.

HEAP Cooling Assistance

This government program will cover the cost of an air conditioning unit and installation for those susceptible to extreme heat and humidity. To qualify, applicants must meet HEAP eligibility criteria and income thresholds. 

  • Applications for cooling assistance are currently being accepted.
  • Funding is expected to be available by June 2025.
  • Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents outside of New York City may apply by contacting their local department of social services by phone or in person. 

New York City residents may apply in person at a local Human Resources Administration Benefit Access Center or online at access.nyc.gov.

EnergyShare

Qualification

As a residential customer, you may qualify for up to $300 toward your bill annually per EnergyShare season.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have made at least one good-faith payment toward your bill within the last 12 months.
  • Be eligible for government financial assistance and/or meet federal Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) income guidelines.

Check your eligibility by applying through our partner, HeartShare. If there is no site in your area, please call your local office or email HeartShare.

How to Donate

This grant is funded by contributions from caring customers, employees, businesses, and foundations. Plus, for every dollar that’s donated, we’re proud to match it—doubling the impact of your generosity.

Check the EnergyShare box on your bill to add $1 to the total amount due. That dollar will be donated automatically.
